Wabigoon Lake Water Treatment System Expansion
Wabigoon Lake Water Treatment System Expansion
February 04, 2025 – Indigenous Services Canada issued its notice of determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
The determination was based on consideration of the following factors:
- There will be positive impacts on the rights of Indigenous people, which will result in safe drinking water for the community, and;
- Mitigation measures proposed for the project during construction activities have been prepared and reviewed by ISC.
Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:
- Impacts to the land, resulting from vegetation clearing and roadwork;
- Impacts to the water, including fish and fish habitat, resulting from construction of a new intake pipe in Dinorwic Lake;
- Impacts to surface or groundwater from accidental spills or releases - requirement for double-walled fuel tanks. Spills will be reported to the Ontario Spills Action Centre and spill kits must be available on site.
- Erosion control measures will be put in place, including re-seeding disturbed areas.
Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable to project to be carried out whole or in part.
