Trans Mountain Miette River Encroachment 6.5

Trans Mountain Pipeline is proposing to build a 208-metre-long protective rock structure or "wedge" and a berm beside a section of the Miette River in Jasper National Park to prevent further river encroachment and protect the pipeline from becoming exposed and damaged in the future. The rock wedge will be made of angular rip rap and native soils buried underground between the river and the pipeline, and below a small draw that is expected to be frozen at the time of construction. There is no plan for instream work in the Miette River. Depth of excavation for the project will be approximately 2.8m and 8m wide. A berm will be built on the surface at one end of the wedge using compacted soils excavated during construction of the wedge. Topsoil will be replaced over disturbed ground and re-vegetated with native plants and seed. The work is tentatively scheduled for winter 2026/2027.
