My wife and I moved onto Moose River road several years ago with the peace of mind that the Moose River mines were being closed and switching into a remediation process. The 15-mile processing project will impact, crush and alter my everyday movement, the peace I have on my property and puts a dagger in the potential for a healthy future in the Musquodoboit Valley, not just for me but for every family trying to make it in a small town.
The project proposal for the 15-mile processing hub will guarantee air and water pollution for decades to come. The ability for me to begin a happy and healthy family is directly threatened by the allowance for st. barabara to forgo a plethora of environmental regulations in the name of speed. As gold is not a mineral that impacts our national security, why is there a need to increase the pace of extraction for precious minerals. This gold will not protect my country, stabalise the dollar or be put into technologies that advance my life. THis gold is intended for jewlery and treasuries. SO how can this mine move forward? This is not being done for the economy here. SHort-term jobs and comparatively little tax revenue generated are not worth trading the health of my community for decades to come at minimum. ALready we deal with nefarious potholes destroying peoples only source of transortation due to the heavy logging trucks. Thousands and thousands of tonnes of ore are to be trucked on my road, simply adding to the real danger of just transporting myself to work. And again, this cost will be passed to our township, not the mine. THeir rvenue projection for shareholders sits in the billions. How dare the government roll out the red carpet and poison pill our minds with the offer of SOME decent paying jobs..... for max 10 years. Those wont be my kids, or the higgins, or the poole's kids either. A foreign company is being guided through MY hometown to crush my future, Corrupt government officials fanning them for their efforts as they burn the ground behind them. The only reason this mine is being allowed is because of rushed legislative processes that aim to risk a sustainable future in lieue of current influencial gains. This is not a project that my neoghbours need or want. Billions in revenue and they offer crumbs to the food bank, atv clubs, snowmobile clubs, youth volleyball. THis project is an insult to the intelligence of rural people and simply seeks to prey upon an economic structure that enables the biggest bully to get their way. 5 years ago, this mining project was not possible because we had proper regulations that this project would not and cannot meet. If the only way for this project to continue is to ignore scientifically supported regulatory measures, then how in the HELL can I be okay with this? How could any resident.
Revoke this project and make St. Barbara follow real environmental assessments. Billions in revenue for shareholders tells me they could absolutely do better than their meager alterations doen for this project to be shoved through. St. Barabara will regret trying to poison us and out waters.- Submitted by
