I support the continued advancement of the 15‑Mile Processing Hub Project (Reference No. 90533) through the federal impact assessment process.

The project proposes to consolidate and develop three historic open‑pit gold mines located 85 to 145 kilometres northeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, into an integrated processing hub.  This coordinated approach reflects a more efficient model of resource development, leveraging previously disturbed sites while limiting the need for duplicative infrastructure.

The project also represents a meaningful opportunity to generate regional economic benefits, including employment, local procurement, and government revenues over its anticipated operating life.  These outcomes are particularly relevant for rural communities seeking long‑term economic stability.

Importantly, the project is proceeding within the framework of the federal impact assessment process, which is designed to ensure that environmental effects, Indigenous rights, and public input are fully considered and integrated into decision-making.  This provides confidence that potential impacts will be appropriately identified, mitigated, and managed.

As the project advances, continued focus should be placed on:

  • Meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, including incorporation of Indigenous knowledge and respect for Treaty rights
  • Robust environmental controls, particularly for water, tailings, and reclamation
  • Clear mechanisms to deliver local and regional socioeconomic benefits

Based on the information available at this stage, the project aligns with the principles of responsible resource development. I support its progression to the next phase of review so that it can be further refined through consultation and detailed assessment.
