NOTICE OF DETERMINATION

March 25, 2025 – Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Knucwentwecw Society Office is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • Community knowledge;
  • Comments received from the public; and
  • The implementation of the mitigation measures set out in the Construction Environmental Management Plan, Knucwentwecw Society Child and Family Services, New Building Development; prepared by DWB Consulting Services; dated November 12, 2024.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • Harmful and deleterious substance spills;
  • Soil disturbance (e.g., rutting, exposure) that can contribute to erosion;
  • Erosion discharge and sediment introduction into nearby watercourses;
  • Harm to wildlife (e.g., mammals, birds, and amphibians) and wildlife habitat (e.g., badger dens);
  • Introduction and spread of invasive plants; and
  • Soil compaction and disturbance impairing reclamation efforts.

Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Indigenous Services Canada may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part. .
