Bigstone Cree Nation Education Authority: CU254 Oksi Pasikoniwew Kakik School Secondary Access Road Project

Bigstone Cree Nation proposes to construct and operate a secondary access road linking Duran Lane (also called Auger Lane) to Oksi Pasikoniwew Kakik Elementary School and the future site of a new high school. The road will consist of a 7.0m wide all-season surface within a 30.0m wide maintained alignment and a total length of 370m within Bigstone Cree Nation's lands at Wabasca IR No. 166A. The road alignment is proposed to cross a Class C unnamed tributary (WBID 223457) of South Wabasca Lake utilizing a crossing structure of four (4) 1,600 mm culverts. The construction will require clearing of forest and riparian vegetation within the road alignment, and infilling of watercourse within the crossing structure footprint. The proposed instream work is presently under review by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Biophysical inventories of fish and wildlife habitat and populations have been conducted to support the work.
