ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd.: 1098480 Wabasca IR No. 166 Phase 2 Alfred Road Gas Main & Distribution System

ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. proposes to expand its natural gas main and distribution system at Bigstone Cree Nation's Wabasca IR No. 166. New infrastructure will include the installation of 1,400 m of 60mm polyethylene gas distribution main line and four 26mm polyethylene service lines. This new infrastructure is made in addition to an ongoing gasification project at Bigstone Cree Nation previously reviewed under two separate postings and review process. Gas line will be installed primarily by trenchless horizontal drilling and line trenching, and will take place primarily alongside previously disturbed roadways, survey lines, and cutlines. A biophysical assessment of the project area and surrounding lands identified a variety of valued ecosystems components which have influenced construction practices and necessitate the use of proponent-developed environmental work practices. Project planning has included the development of environmental management plans to avoid and mitigate negative environmental impacts, and to monitoring construction activities in accordance with plans approved by Bigstone Cree Nation.
